If you are based in the tri-state area, your dreams have just come true.  In my opinion the big apple has been lacking with great show announcements for NYE, and when I heard Pretty Lights was coming I pretty much lost it.

Pretty Lights will be hosting his first event in NYC in over 2 years on December 30th and 31st at Roseland Ballroom where he will be playing extended sets with classic and unreleased tracks in a more intimate setting.   Surely an event not to miss, be sure to grab your tickets via Ticketmaster here (register & login to view link) for the 30th, as the 31st and 2-day passes are already sold out.

If you’re unfamiliar with Pretty Lights or with any of his productions, look no further than the video below from his NYE show last year in Colorado.  Speechless.

For the rest of you have no … Read more

Bassnectar. The name itself promises a twisted blend of mind-numbing bass and a dulcet intoxication. As dubstep’s popularity increases, so does the number of hacks claiming they have the next hit jam for the genre, but no one does it like Lorin Ashton AKA Bassnectar. A man who speaks dubstep so fluently, he made a video where he dares to define the genre in simple beats-per-minute terms. If you’re going to see dubstep live, you want to make sure it’s from this guy.

I think a dubstep show is one of the biggest displays of camaraderie; there’s room for improvisation but every single person is hitting the same beats at the same time. Everyone has his or her own dance interpretation of this metaphysical language. People are losing their minds around you, but I can guarantee no one is going harder than the curator of this visceral experience (did … Read more

Helloha DJs, Miss A is back with another sporadic post, using vulgar words to critique the computer music of her comrades!! Since our last reunion I’ve been blessed to see Bassnectar, Krewella, Wick-It The Instigator, Pierce Fulton and Wolfgang Gartner all within the same week and area code. Everyone was on fire but I’d have to say Nectar & Wolfgang were the hottest, both diving into new frontiers for their type of music (not to mention their stage set-ups are absolutely stunning). But speaking of stunning new frontiers and sporadic comrades, I have the latest from D1RTY NO1ZE and Milk & Cookies! Without further ado:

Ne-Yo – Let Me Love You (D1RTY NO1ZE Remix) (register & login to view link)

My d1rty brothers are right on time with this Ne-Yo remix – here’s a tune you can sneak into your Halloween set to keep the dancefloor … Read more

Camp Bisco is an annual 3-day outdoor music event held upstate NY that began in 2001. This music festival was founded by the Disco Biscuits, a band from Philadelphia, PA, who play at the event each year. The Disco Biscuits are a trans-like jam band that incorporates live instruments and electronic sound.

The 11th annual Camp Bisco was held at, Indian Lookout Country Club in upstate New York. For those who’ve never attended, it is a sprawling and beautiful outdoor venue. The grounds were separated into sections for camping, parking, and stages. There were two covered “dance tents”, and there were two main stages set up beside each other. Separate parking accommodations as well as a free shuttle service were established to accommodate all of the attendees.

The main stage set up offered seamless action because there was no wait time between sets. It’s rare to note the friendliness … Read more

Check out our new DJ & EDM Forum (just launched Friday July 27 2012)

One of music’s most prominent and longest standing bass practitioners, Bassnectar, is gearing up for a busy fall in 2012 with a coast to coast tour that hits markets not covered on his VAVA VOOM Spring tour.  His latest album of the same name peaked at #1 in the iTunes electronic chart (#9 overall) and showcases some of the most diverse influences in the EDM world, including hip hop collaborations with Lupe Fiasco and Amp Live, ethereal vocals from Mimi Page and a tribute to California Skate-punk legends Pennywise.  Bassnectar’s highly original production style is spurred from a past of far reaching musical inspirations.  His music is meticulously produced, consciously relevant and brazenly defies genre categorization.

The VAVA Voom Spring tour brought over 80,000 bass heads together within the span of three weeks. Read more

funkagenda at pacha

On Friday June 29th Funk Farm took Pacha by storm! Starting off the night with their special guest Sydney Blu. She took us on a musical journey through her Blu world, filled with a melodic mix of techno and progressive house elements, that really got the crowd moving. There’s much more about Sydney Blu in “Funk Farm Takes Over Pacha NYC (Part 2) Interview w/ Sydney Blu”, were I had the pleasure of sitting down and talking with her one on one after her set.

If you haven’t heard of Funk Farm by now then I feel a bit sad for you because you haven’t had the great experience of hearing some of the most upfront, in your face and hypnotizing sounds from the one and only Funkagenda. He is the driving force responsible for Funk Farm, based out of London and dedicated to pushing … Read more

Electric Daisy Carnival New York 2012 Pictures, EDC NY 2012 Photos

This past weekend, nearly 100,000 EDM fans flocked to MetLife Stadium for Electric Daisy Carnival NY. With performances Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and an eclectic group of international DJ’s there was something for everyone who attended. If there’s one thing to know about the event organizers, Insomniac and Pacha New York, it’s that they know how to throw a party.

As EDM has grown tremendously in the past several years, Electric Daisy Carnival has grown with it. The concert is now hosted in Las Vegas, New York, and Puerto Rico. Distinct from all other concerts of this kinds are the visuals and the amusement rides.
