Well. At some point it was guaranteed to happen: a big name DJ was going to get remixing duties on a Justin Bieber single. When I first saw it was the Dada boys doing the job, my first reaction: excitement. Wow, I thought to myself, those crazy Dada guys have a chance to do a huge remix for the most widely adored (by pre-pubescent girls) pop-star on the planet, who’s sound is so sweet it will give you tooth ache, and in turn achieve some pretty big things!
Yolanda Be Cool, AKA Australian’s Andrew Stanley and Johnson “Durango Slim” Peterson, have returned from a period of near-silence since their smash-hit We No Speak Americano took over the world two years ago. And my, have they returned in style. Foreign Affair, at this stage, is an instrumental track, and the band have hinted that a well known vocalist will be assisting on the track soon. But for now, they have released the instrumental track for free. Featuring their well known sound of playful house, vocal samples and jilty, jumpy melodies, Foreign Affair sets the tone perfectly for Miami Music Week and UMF, with a perfect salsa sample dropping into some very funky, summer-feeling EDM.
A preview from Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show of the wunderkind Madeon’s new remix. This track has already picked up a lot of heat from A-Trak’s huge remix, which I have been playing in my shows lately, and now, Solveig can count himself lucky – he’s got two huge remixes on his hands.
Featuring the style of Madeon that we have come to love, The Night Out brings together funky electric guitar riffs, hi-hats, awesome piano progressions and huge, thundering bass drops. I love the A-Trak version (register & login to view link) because of its earth-shaking, in your face, techno-y bass lead on the drop, and they are for different occasions, but the Madeon remix is the perfect for this time of year: the sun is coming out, the clothes are getting thinner, the beers are getting colder and the parties are moving outside. Euphoric, energetic and very, … Read more
Easily one of the most anticipated tracks of 2012, and probably late 2011 too, has finally been released. It’s taken me a while to get my hands on it, due to Beatport and iTunes being so temperamental, but here it is – Icarus by Madeon!
So, where to start? Well, this 17 year old (Yes, you read that correctly. Now go and re-evaluate your life) musical prodigy from France caught the attention of dance music head honchos such as Deadmau5 and Steve Angello, amongst many others, with his viral Pop Culture (register & login to view link)video on YouTube, and subsequent remix of Raise Your Weapon (register & login to view link), both of which showcased his immense producing, mashing and remixing capabilities. As if … Read more
DJ Starki came out with a ridiculous new mashup recently of Rihanna vs Bob Sinclar called Every Girl in the World. This is a must download for any DJ looking to transition from a Pop to a House song in their set or vice versa.
I know that you guys already got the remixes from my fellow Londoners, Nero, and the legendary Italian DJ Benny Benassi, which Danny posted last month, but here we have the mastered and final version of Calvin Harris’ latest release on Sony Music (and I put the DL links up for the remixes in case you missed them!)
Having said he would no longer sing on his tracks, as featured in the mega-hits I’m Not Alone and Flashback, among others, Calvin Harris is back to his old ways on Feel So Close. Supported by a massive guitar riff that is uncommon in EDM, this is one feel-good track you are likely to hear a lot more of.
Make sure you leave feedback, who would you have chosen to remix this record?
So for my first post (pressure’s on, I know!), I’ve got a couple of tracks from what has become probably the biggest story in the EDM world for the last month or so. I’m sure many of you already know the story, but for those who don’t, in short: Tim Bergling (AKA Tim Berg AKA Avicii) and his management (AtNight) send out the instrumental mix of Fade Into Darkness (Penguins) to various artists. By the time that Leona Lewis laid down a version and her people at SyCo (Simon Cowell’s record label) sent it over to Avicii, he had already decided on the version we now know as Fade Into Darkness, featuring vocals from Autumn Rowe. He declined Leona use of the song, but word has it her label was pushing her aways from the heart-broken ballads of previous albums into a more dance-inspired genre, and did NOT want to let this … Read more
