Pretty much everyone who had access to BBC Radio 1on Friday night was tuned in to the legendaryPete Tong‘s dance show, that was subject to an invasion of Swedes, namely the takeover by the superstars of the Swedish House Mafia. Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso have been quiet on the production front since Antidote, touring heavily and playing shows all across the globe. Well, all that was about to change. The Swedes previewed a gang of new tracks, including new records fromAlesso,Sebastian Ingrosso,Steve Angello,Third Partyand the Swedish House Mafiathemselves. The ID that opened their now legendary set at Madison Square Garden has finally been given a name: Greyhound.

I caught wind of the passing of DJ Solomon from a post from fellow deejay – DJ Spider – that read:
Just heard the awful news about Solomon Kahn passing away, so sad, I can not believe it. He was one of the nicest, smartest, most genuine guys I’ve ever met. Solomon did everything for the right reasons. A DJs DJ. He loved helping people out and had a raw passion for DJing. I had just talked to him on the phone recently for a few hours. He was one of the first people I met up in San Francisco when I travelled to dj there. Solomon was a great person and will be missed. My thoughts and love go out to him, his family and friends.

To honour the release of classic video game Syndicate, EA Games has commissioned the remix of the original’s 8-bit theme tune (similar to what the guys behind Mortal Kombat did last year), by 3 of the biggest names in dubstep and electro. The Skrillex remix has been floating around for a while in 128kbps, but I’ve got the 320′s here for you to enjoy. The Skrillex and Flux tracks are dirty, slower moombahton tracks, whilst the Digitalism remix is an electro house banger, like much of his previous work!
As some of you may have heard, Ultra Music Festival is giving any “ordinary” DJ a chance to play at UMF 2012 in Miami. I recently finished up my mix and will be putting it up on Mixcloud momentarily. I would appreciate if everyone could share and take a listen to the track and say something nice of course. The competition will based on many things including number of plays, favorites, and positive feedback; of course, you call can help me with that. If any of you are interested I will post the link for the registration guidelines as well as the link to my mix. Thanks and happy listening!

Today Simon Cowell’s entertainment arm of his media corporation SYCO announced, in partnership with Sony Pictures Television and Will and Jada-Pinkett Smith‘s Overbrook Entertainment, plans for a new TV show based on finding the next big DJ. EDM acts and labels have been quick to voice their opinions on it. Defected Records sarcastically commented on Simon’s ability to “always spot a bandwagon”. This is in reference to the meteoric rise of EDM in the last 2 years, especially in America. DJ Van Toth, one half of Miami-based duo GTA, stated “FFS”, whilst world-renowned English DJ Chris Lake simply said, “Oh dear.” Gareth from Drum and Bass group Pendulum and most recently their side-project Knife Party, stated, “Simon Cowell is launching an xfactor (sic) style search to find the next big DJ sensation, I knew 2012 would be the end of life as we know it”.

Steve Aoki has long been associated with all aspects of the EDM scene. Club promotions, remixes, label head, producer, A&R… I could go on. His Dim Mak Records has released some of the biggest electro-house tracks over the last few years, and 2012 looks to be the year he becomes a household name.
The first thing to note is that this is an incredibly diverse album, ranging from trance and electro to dubstep and punk, and many fans may find this frustrating. For example, “Earthquakey People” is Über-poppy, with the chorus, courtesy of Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo, commanding us to “jump around, nothing they can do or say to bring us down”, or “Ladi Dadi“, featuring Wynter Gordon, which sounds a bit like a Dirty Talk dubstep remix, are both perfect radio-ready records. Then, at the other end of … Read more
