A Historic Announcement For The EDM Scene – Swedish House Mafia

For those of you who haven’t heard, something very special has occurred in the world of electronic dance music this evening (afternoon for those of you on the East Coast, and morning I suppose on the West Coast!). Swedish House Mafia have announced 3 things:

  1. A date at the historic Milton Keynes Bowl (register & login to view link), capacity 65,000, on Saturday, 14 July 2012.
  2. A date at the even more historic Madison Square Garden (register & login to view link) on Friday, 16 December 2011.
  3. A live album titled One Night Stand, set for release in December 2012, featuring their remix of Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall, and their currently hyped single with Pendulum spin-off, Knife Party, titled Antidote.
So, why is this so special? It may seem like a deserved question to those of you outside of the US/UK. Well, aside from Swedish House Mafia being the first DJs to ever play Madison Square Garden, home to such spectacles as Michael Jackson, the New York Knicks,  Led Zeppelin, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Wrestlemania and the New York Rangers to name but a few, their show at the Milton Keynes Bowl will be the largest audience ever played to by a dance act, outside of the festival circuit. Not only that, it signifies the highest point in the resurgence of EDM as of yet, a mark of how far the genre has come in the last couple of years. From small clubs of aficionados across Europe and in the States, to sold out stadiums of loving fans and crossover hits reaching the number 1 spots across the globe, it is safe to say that the genre of Dance is back. Whilst this may seem a touch grandiose, you simply need to look at the histories of the two respective venues to feel the gravity of these events. Visited by only those acts at the top of their class, Swedish House Mafia have sent a message: we are of the same calibre as acts like Oasis and Eminem (both acts sold out the Milton Keynes Bowl). I hope my enthusiasm has translated through this article, and if it hasn’t, please please please feel free to tell me this is a non-event in the comments section below! As a DJ myself, I am just happy that the doors have been opened by pioneers, to make the prospect of playing to many thousands of people a real possibility, and so should you too!
P.S. Doubly good news for all you New Yorkers, Avicii has also anounced a New Years Eve gig at Pier 94, for the early bird price of $60. Grab your tickets quickly, they are very likely to sell out fast! Looks like it will be a very merry Christmas for EDM fans!
